If you've injured your lower back, you've probably been told to wear a back brace. Initially this may help to support your aching low back, but many people overuse back braces and it can actually be causing more damage than you think. You shouldn't wear a back for more than 30 days. If you wear it for a longer period of time, the core muscles (abdomen and lower back) start to become weak because the back brace is now doing all the work to maintain you in an upright position. Instead of wearing a back brace for a prolonged time, you should be walking and doing simple exercises to help strengthen your back.
