In this video I will teach you how you can identify a disc herniation based on the symptoms you are feeling.
When you have a herniated disc, the fluid inside the disc is pushed out and can press on adjacent nerves. When the pressure inside the disc increases you notice the following symptoms:
1. Numbness and tingling in the hands and feet
2. Decreased sensation in the extremities
3. Weakness in the extremities
4. Pain in the area of the herniation
You may have a herniated disc if you feel these symptoms when you sneeze, cough, laugh, and push when you go to the bathroom. All these actions increase the pressure inside a disc and can bring about increased pain, which helps to diagnose a herniation especially if you experience pain traveling from one area to another as is the case with sciatica. Once those symptoms are showing up, your doctor may order an MRI to confirm the diagnosis.
